Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 28, 2026

Thank you for using HiveLog. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application. HiveLog is a hive-management app that helps beekeepers track apiaries, hives, queens, inspections, treatments, and harvests.

Information We Collect

To provide our services, we may collect the following types of information:

  • Account Information: When you create an account we collect your email address (or Apple/Google identity token) and a display name. Guest accounts have no email and are identified only by an anonymous user id.
  • Apiary Data: Apiary names, GPS coordinates, optional notes, and an active/inactive flag. The location is stored only when you choose to record it.
  • Hive Data: Hive names, color tags, source (package, nuc, swarm, split, cutout), configuration (hive type and box layout), status, and optional notes.
  • Queen Data: Year of birth, marking color, clipped status, origin, optional breeder name, mother queen reference for lineage, and optional notes.
  • Inspection Data: Date, weather conditions, queen + brood observations, population, temperament, stores, pest/disease observations, actions taken, free-text notes, and attached photos and voice notes.
  • Treatment, Feeding, Harvest & Mite-count Data: Dates, products, doses, amounts, and notes for each event.
  • Tasks: Title, due date, scope (apiary or hive), and a local notification identifier so we can cancel or reschedule the reminder when you edit the task. All notifications are local-device only — we never push from a server.
  • Photos and Voice Notes: Files you attach to inspections are uploaded to Firebase Storage under your user id. They are stored only when you record or pick them.
  • Subscription State: Whether you have an active HiveLog Pro subscription, mirrored from RevenueCat.
  • Device Information: Basic device details like operating system, app version, and unique device identifiers for crash diagnostics and compatibility.

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide and maintain HiveLog — storing your apiary, hive, queen, and event records and syncing them across your devices.
  • Compute insights (mite trend, yield charts, year-in-review) and display the bloom calendar for your climate region.
  • Schedule local notifications for tasks and treatment follow-ups.
  • Allow you to share an apiary with another beekeeper read-only via a 7-day share code.
  • Generate per-hive PDF reports when you request them.
  • Verify your HiveLog Pro entitlement so paid features unlock.
  • Improve the app through anonymous diagnostics.

Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share information in the following circumstances:

  • Apiary Sharing: When you generate a share code, the recipient gains read-only access to that specific apiary and its hives. You can revoke a code at any time.
  • Service Providers: We use Firebase (authentication, Firestore database, storage), RevenueCat (subscription management), and Apple / Google Sign In for OAuth. Each provider has its own privacy policy. Open-Meteo is optionally queried for weather data using only your apiary's latitude / longitude — no account information is sent.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and safety.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. This includes encryption of data in transit (TLS) and at rest, per-user Firestore security rules so a signed-in account can only ever read its own documents, and per-user Storage rules with a 25 MB upload cap.

Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. You can delete an apiary, hive, inspection, treatment, queen, photo, or voice note at any time directly from the app. You can also delete your account from Settings, which removes all of your apiary, hive, and event data.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Access and review your data (Settings → Export PDF)
  • Correct inaccurate information by editing it in the app
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Object to or restrict processing
  • Data portability via the per-hive PDF export

To exercise these rights, please contact us using the information below.

Children's Privacy

HiveLog is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware of such collection, we will delete the information promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy in the app or sending you an email.
